In this house, we like pizza.  That could be why Eric spent a total of four years working at two different pizza restaurants during college!  I’ve tried a variety of crust and sauce recipes and these are definitely my favorite.  It’s so easy, especially because I can make the pizza dough in the breadmaker.  The sauce recipe is enough for three pizzas so I freeze the extra in the right quantity for one pizza.  Pizza is so inexpensive to make, especially because several of the ingredients I have gotten for free or next to nothing with coupons.  I buy bread flour and yeast at Sam’s Club since it’s much cheaper than in the grocery store and I use them a lot for making bread.

Pizza Hut Style Pizza Dough from
1 1/3 cups water
2 tsp sugar
1 1/4 tsp salt
2 Tbsp olive oil
2 Tbsp cornmeal
3 1/4 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp onion powder
1 1/2 tsp yeast

Add ingredients to bread machine and run dough setting. After the machine beeps, roll out the dough. The dough makes two medium sized pizzas.  Bake at 450 degrees for 8-10 minutes before adding the sauce and toppings.

Pizza Sauce from
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
1 1/2 cups water
1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
2 cloves garlic, minced
Salt to taste
Ground black pepper to taste
1/2 tablespoon dried oregano
1/2 tablespoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary, crushed
*1/2 tablespoon garlic powder (this was Eric’s addition)

Mix together the tomato paste, water, and olive oil. Add garlic, salt and pepper to taste, oregano, basil, rosemary, and garlic powder. Mix well and let stand several hours to let flavors blend.

I use about 1 cup of the sauce per pizza and add about 2 cups of cheese.  We enjoy trying a different topping each time, depending on what I have on hand.  After adding the sauce and toppings to your pizza, cook for another 10-12 minutes at 450 degrees.
